FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the key differences between 2022 and 2025?

Windows Server 2025 introduces: Native Azure Arc integration without extra components, memory persistence across reboots, improved NTFS performance, NVMe 2.0 support, AI-based storage optimization, and enhanced Kubernetes tooling. Server 2022 is mature and stable; 2025 is optimized for hybrid cloud and modern workloads.

Standard vs Datacenter pricing?

Standard is $48/mo (or one-time purchase) for up to 2 VMs. Datacenter is $96/mo for unlimited VMs. Choose Datacenter if you plan to run more than 2 VMs per host — cost-effective for high-density virtualization.

Can I mix Standard and Datacenter licenses on the same host?

No, each physical host must be licensed consistently. You cannot run 1 Standard VM + 1 Datacenter VM on the same physical server. The host must be fully Standard or fully Datacenter.

Is Windows Server 2022 still supported?

Yes, mainstream support ends October 2031, extended support ends October 2036. It's a stable, production-ready OS with 5+ years of support remaining.

What is Azure hybrid benefit?

Azure Hybrid Benefit allows you to use on-premises Windows Server licenses in Azure at reduced compute rates (no separate OS license charge). You also get Azure cost savings for Windows Server containers.

How do I activate Windows Server?

Volume licenses activate via MAK (one-time online/phone activation per server) or KMS (activates against your internal KMS server, minimum 25 servers required). We provide the license keys; you choose activation method.
