Primeros pasos
Verify hardware meets requirements: 1.4 GHz 64-bit CPU, 512 MB RAM (2 GB recommended), 32 GB disk space.
Obtain Windows Server 2012 R2 ISO from Microsoft VLSC or MSDN. Check SHA-1 hash to verify integrity.
Use Rufus to create bootable USB with UEFI/legacy support. Format as FAT32 for UEFI, NTFS for legacy BIOS.
Boot from media, select Standard/Datacenter edition, provide product key (can skip for later). Complete GUI install.
Activate using provided MAK key: Control Panel → System → Activate Windows, or use `slmgr.vbs /ipk ` CLI command.
Run Windows Update to install latest patches. Consider WSUS if managing multiple servers. Extended support until October 2027.

Yes, in-place upgrades from 2012 R2 → 2016 → 2019 are supported. However, always backup first and test. Clean install recommended for Hyper-V hosts to avoid driver/configuration issues.
2016 introduced major changes: Shielded VMs, Storage Spaces Direct, Nano Server, Software-Defined Networking, Containers, and Windows Defender ATP. 2012 R2 is simpler and works for basic file/print/AD roles.
If you run more than 2 VMs per host, Datacenter is cheaper. For 5+ VMs, Datacenter pays for itself. For 1-2 VMs, Standard suffices. Consider your virtualization density carefully.
Unlimited Windows Server VMs on that host as long as you have hardware resources (CPU, RAM, disk). You can run dozens of VMs per physical server with Datacenter license.
Windows Server 2012 R2 is in extended support until October 10, 2027. Security updates are provided (paid for some exceptions). Production use is still acceptable but plan upgrade to newer versions before EOL.
